If you know me at least you’ll already know, I’m part of the #teamcravatta. Fortunately, however, I’m not your fashion consultant, I’d like to be your wedding photographer, and as such, I’d like to give you some of my considerations on the most difficult accessory to choose for the Groom: tie or bow tie?
Let’s start right away with the elephant in the room: there is no better choice than the other. It all depends on who you are, and above all on how comfortable you feel.
Perhaps you are not used to wearing a suit and a shirt, so you will probably feel out of the comfort zone even with just a jacket, let alone buttoning the top button of the shirt: spoiler, for the wedding day, it is a sacrifice that pays off .
(But don’t worry, I’m on your side, I can always make you remove your tie/bow tie during the wedding shooting “for artistic needs” 😉 you just have to tell me in advance without the Bride knowing 😛 )
Going back to the comfort zone, a good tailored shirt will help you not miss the first button closure. And now that you’re comfortable and at ease, what do you choose?
PRO TIE
It is timeless, elegant. A nice tie is like the refrain of the summer hit: everyone will notice the elegant suit (or boho chic, or sporty, you know no limits…), but in the end the eye will ALWAYS fall on the tie.
It can be formal, loose and gathered, princely, or classic, or textured, but it will still be a statement of your character.
Ultimately, the tie represents the establishment of your being a Groom. See it as a sports car: the color says who you are.
PRO BOW TIE
Don’t worry, you don’t run the slightest risk of looking like a waiter. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you. The bow tie is fanciful, fun, and above all it is an orchestra conductor: if you choose the bow tie you will have to “tune” the whole suit, the colors and the fabrics, to the note you decide to give with the bow tie.
I’m not just talking about color, but also about fabric, style: everything will revolve around that.
You can also play it together with the witnesses, or with the family, with the same or contrasting colors (yes, it can also be done with ties, but I think it’s better with bow ties).
Playing with the accessories of the dress, having fun creating combinations of colors or fabrics, trying to be original, is one of the parts I loved most in the chaos of my wedding preparations, and I hope you can enjoy yourself in the same way!
WHICH TIE TO CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING
From the most famous brands (E. Marinella above all) to the handcrafted ones made by tailors specialized in weddings, we boys are spoiled for choice.
If you prefer a classic style, you will probably go for a blue suit, perhaps shiny, and you can play with the colors of the waistcoat, perhaps gray, and the tie, which you can have in contrast or tone on tone. The classic cut wants it wide, princely and curled on the knot. For the more precious there is the option with the diamond on the knot. Or you can opt for a shiny but original colored tie (perhaps wine red?).
If, on the other hand, you want a less classic, more modern and chic look, you can opt for a suit in non-worsted fabric, perhaps in a pastel or burgundy color, and here infinite scenarios open up for the tie: handcrafted from the same fabric as the suit, or with an elegant design, with a contrasting texture .. it’s really fun!
WHICH BOW TIE TO CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that choosing a bow tie is trivial. There is not only the black bow tie or the blue one.
Have fun agreeing a color theme for the wedding with the witnesses, friends or relatives. Or impress everyone with a bright green bow tie!
If you want to go beyond the “trivial” color, remember that there are bow ties in leather, skin, wood: on these materials you can have anything engraved, from the date to the name of your Bride. Remember that the bow tie is a real distinctive sign, an accessory that will coordinate the whole outfit.
In any case, the best way to make the choice is to try all the alternatives.. so have fun!
